Why Ages 7–9 is the right age to start martial arts
Why 7 to 9 / 01

The sweet spot tobegin.

By 7 to 9, a kid has the focus and the coordination to train at a true martial-arts standard — real kicks, real forms, real sparring. Almost every kid in this program started with zero experience, so it’s never too late to begin here.

This is our flagship for a reason. The challenge is real, the wins are earned, and the quiet confidence it builds shows up at school, on the playground, and the first time a bigger kid tests them.

On the mat / 02

What your kid learns.

Real martial arts and real character — taught at their pace by a head coach with ten-plus years on the mat.

Skills
  • Spinning and jumping kicks, combinations, and forms
  • Controlled sparring — footwork and focus over force
  • Practical self-defense built into every class
  • A clear belt-rank path toward black belt
Character
  • Goal-setting and the grit to test for the next belt
  • The quiet confidence that stops most bullying before it starts
  • A path to junior coach — leading drills, mentoring younger kids
At Home
  • Standing taller the first time a bigger kid tests them
  • Setting a goal, then actually chasing it
  • Looking adults in the eye when they speak

The “At Home” column isn’t a promise — it’s what parents in this program keep telling us. The mat is where it’s built; home is where you’ll see it.

Inside a Warrior class / 03

Forty-five minutes, start to finish.

Nervous about the first class? Here’s exactly what happens from the moment your kid bows in.

01

Bow-In

Class opens with respect. Shoes off, focus on. Every kid greeted by name.

02

Warm-Up

Movement that’s secretly skill — listening, coordination, and a lot of energy out.

03

Technique

A real move broken into small wins — a clean front kick, a sharp block.

04

Pads & Partners

Controlled contact on pads. Power with control, never on each other.

05

Challenge

A game-like round that hides the reps — they’re working hard and grinning.

06

Mat Chat

A 2-minute lesson that travels home: respect, effort, trying again. Then high-fives out.

Every class runs 45 minutes — start to finish, the same structure your kid can count on.

The journey / 04

White belt to black belt.

A belt isn’t a participation sticker. Every stripe is earned — a milestone you’ll watch happen in real life.

  1. Stage 01 The Foundation
  2. White Belt Day one

The journey starts. Bowing in, listening, the very first stance.

At home They teach grandma how to bow — and expect it back.

  3. Yellow Belt ~Month 3

First real techniques land. The shy kid starts raising their hand.

At home You catch them practicing in the hallway without being asked.

  4. Orange Belt ~Month 6

Combinations click. Focus that parents notice at home.

At home Homework starts with less of a fight — and gets finished.

  5. Stage 02 Forged Through Challenge
  6. Green Belt ~Year 1

Real control. Helping newer kids without being asked.

At home They help — at the dinner table, with siblings — before you ask.

  7. Blue Belt ~Year 1.5

Sparring with composure. Losing well and trying again.

At home They lose a board game and reset the pieces to play again.

  8. Purple Belt ~Year 2

They came back when it was hard. That’s where grit begins.

At home On a hard morning they still pack their own gear bag.

  9. Stage 03 Becoming a Leader
  10. Brown Belt ~Year 3

Mastery of the basics. Quiet, earned confidence.

At home The confidence stops being loud. It just sits in how they stand.

  11. Red Belt ~Year 3.5

The final stretch before black. Mentoring the room.

At home Younger kids copy them — and they act like someone worth copying.

  12. Black Belt ~Year 4+

Not the end — the standard they now carry everywhere.

At home It shows up everywhere: school, friendships, how they treat people when no one’s watching.

Before you book / 06

Warriors questions parents ask.

Is my 7–9 year old too old to start martial arts?

Not at all — 7 to 9 is the sweet spot for Warriors. Kids this age have the focus and coordination to train at a real martial-arts standard, and almost every kid in the program started with zero experience. It’s a great place to begin.

How long does it take to earn a black belt?

Black belt is a multi-year journey, by design — earned, never handed out. Kids advance through a structured rank system, testing on-demand once they’ve earned three stripes. The goal is mastery, not speed.

Is the sparring safe?

Yes. Sparring is controlled, supervised, and built around focus and footwork over force — always on pads or with proper gear, never reckless contact. Supervised kids martial arts has a lower injury rate than most popular team sports.

Do you offer a free class?

Yes. Your kid’s first class is free — a private 45-minute session with a head coach, including a real technique and their first board break. It’s the easiest way to see if Warrior is the right fit before you decide anything.

How much do classes cost?

Memberships are simple and month-to-month, and most families start around the price of other weekly activities. We’ll walk you through exactly what it costs at your first class — no surprises. Start with a free class and we’ll build a plan around your kid.

Will martial arts help with bullying and confidence?

Yes — and usually without a single fight. Kids who stand tall, make eye contact, and carry calm confidence get targeted far less. We teach boundaries and de-escalation first; the goal is a kid who almost never needs to use it.
